The Centre at a Glance

Climate Center

Guided by Gross National Happiness Values

The Center for Climate Change and Environmental Law was established not just to study the law, but to shape it. Guided by the holistic ethos of Gross National Happiness (GNH), we believe that environmental protection is inseparable from equitable socio-economic development and good governance.

A Holistic Approach to Environmental Law

Our Centre operates at the intersection of law, ecology, and society through rigorous research, regional knowledge hub, multi-stakeholder connection, capacity building, and a graduate program.

Empowering Communities for Environmental Change

Our work focuses on empowering communities to initiate and implement environmental change. We support and connect stakeholders across the region to create lasting impact.

At the intersection of
law, ecology, and society through five key pillars:

Rigorous Research

We generate evidence-based legal research that addresses the specific climate vulnerabilities of the Hindu Kush Himalaya region. Our work moves beyond theory to influence national policy and regional environmental jurisprudence.

Regional Knowledge Hub

Acting as a nexus for the Himalayas, we disseminate critical legal knowledge to a global audience. We ensure that the lessons learned in Bhutan’s “living classroom” are shared with the world.

Multi-Stakeholder Connection

We bridge the gap between silos. By convening international scholars, government officials, multilateral organizations, and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), we foster dialogue that leads to collaborative, actionable climate solutions.

Capacity Building

Through specialized training and high-level forums, conferences and workshops, we equip current professionals with the tools to navigate complex environmental regulations and climate disputes.

The Graduate Program

Home to the LLM/MLS in Climate Change and Environmental Law, we are training the next generation of legal guardians to uphold the principles of intergenerational equity and sustainability.

The People Behind the Purpose

We believe in the power of multi-disciplinary collaboration and bring together experts from diverse fields to provide comprehensive solutions to environmental challenges.
