The Beginning:
Opened in February 2024, the Centre was born from the vision of our President, Her Royal Highness Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck. Recognizing the urgent need for concentrated focus on climate change and environmental law in Bhutan, Her Royal Highness established the Centre to be a leader in the field.
Our Founding Partner: The Karuna Foundation
The Karuna Foundation has been instrumental in turning this vision into reality. As a true partner to the Centre, their foundational support includes:
Infrastructure: Providing the building that houses both our Centre and the JSW Law library.
Operational Funding: Providing the essential "seed" funding to establish our operations.
Ongoing Programming: Continued support for our initiatives, research, and long-term growth.
Our work is made possible through a wide network of sponsors and collaborative partners. These relationships are fundamental to JSW Law’s institutional excellence.
By partnering with academic institutions, public bodies, and international organizations, we:
Enhance Learning: Improve the quality of our teaching and experiential learning programs.
Drive Research: Advance legal scholarship and informed policy engagement.
Strengthen the Rule of Law: Deepen our collective commitment to environmental justice in Bhutan and beyond.

Join our mission to shape the future of environmental law.
We are always looking to expand our network of academic, governmental, and international collaborators. Whether you are interested in joint research, student exchange programs, or supporting our environmental initiatives, we invite you to reach out.
